Genius? Me? Really? Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw this Blog Readability Test posted on Spyscribbler’s blog and thought it might be fun to plug in One Page at a Time. The test assesses the reading level needed in order to comprehend your blog.

Apparently, you need to be a genius to enjoy One Page at a Time. I’m right up there with academic papers. Since I could not find the criteria used by the people at Critics Rant (home of this Test), I moved on to Juicy Studio’s Readability Test to both doublecheck the results and to find out how it works. I ran a number of other blogs through both tests in order to determine whether the results were comparable. They were, which makes me think that both are based on the same readability algorithms.

Juicy Studio uses the Gunning Fog, Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid readability algorithms to determine reading level. These mathematical formulas are based around the average number of words in a sentence and the average number of syllables per word. Short words and short sentences tend to be weighted as more readable, thus the lower grade level needed to read them.

It was interesting to find out that two of the three published author blogs I ran through came out with Elementary Reading Level. The third was at Junior High Level. That speaks well of their ability to reach many people with their writing.

One friend came out at Genius and several were at College Level (both Post and Undergraduate). Friends I know with two very different blogs came out with two very different readings: Elementary and Genius High School and College Undergrad.

I’m not sure how comfortable I am with the idea that to read my writing, you need to be past a college level. Doesn’t seem like that would speak well for eventual publication of my work. Guess that’ll be a bridge I cross when I get to it.

Okay, wait. I just checked with the first link you posted (Blog Readability Test) and it claims my blog is College Level (PostGrad)! I like THAT result better. LOL! But you’re right, it doesn’t explain the criteria behind the results, like Juicy Studio’s Readability Test. BR/BR/I still think the H.S. level is closer to the true result. :-)BR/BR/But I’m posting the college level badge on my blog. LOL!BR/BR/M.
